Couples are eloping (on Instagram) during the pandemic. YPulse’s exclusive After Corona trend research found that the majority of young consumers agree their life plans have been majorly disrupted by COVID-19, and a full 16% of 25-29-year-olds delayed getting married because of the crisis. As the outbreak persists, many have opted to instead have “micro-weddings”: “highly Instagrammable,” COVID-safe elopements. Little Creek Events, which usually hosts weddings, rebranded as “The Reimagined Wedding” after the pandemic hit to accommodate new realities. They now specialize in elopement packages that are “a step above the courthouse,” throwing three to five ceremonies a day complete with flowers and a cactus garden. Elopements are seeing a surge in popularity: Simply Eloped reports interest in their services is at “an all-time high,” with overall site traffic up 135% in August compared to last year.
