The pandemic is fueling a surge in home improvement products and home goods. YPulse’s No Place Like Home report found that Gen Z and Millennials are focused on improving their spaces, and 64% of 13-39-year-olds have purchased items to make their home more comfortable during COVID. And their remote working and schooling is drastically shifting their spending: According to NPD, compared to this time last year, sales of coffee and espresso makers have spiked drastically as people skip their Starbucks runs, and electric grills and griddles and stand mixer sales have also seen major upticks—a trend that could “continue heading into the holiday season.” Furniture and home office products have also been flying off shelves, with Wayfair seeing major sales spikes and Walmart reporting massive growth in sales of web cameras and office chairs.
