Facebook is giving small businesses an easy way to host their virtual events—and earn money. The social network rolled out a new tool to support paid online events for small businesses who are struggling during COVID, allowing them to create, promote, host, and collect payment for events in one place. While the Events feature was initially designed for in-person events, the company saw live broadcasts double during this time and was able to “quickly pivot” to supporting online and live events. The new tool gives brands the ability to host bigger events through Facebook Live, and the company is testing smaller, interactive gatherings in Messenger Rooms. Some of the paid events that have been tested include talks, trivia, podcast recordings, boxing matches, cooking classes, meet-and-greets, and fitness classes. (TechCrunch)
