TikTok and Twitter have reportedly “held talks” about a possible merger. Sure, many copycat apps have popped up to take TikTok’s spot, but “new bidders” have emerged to potentially buy the app instead. After the announcement that TikTok would be banned through an executive order, it was reported that the app “held talks” with Twitter about a “potential combination.” While it is unclear whether Twitter (a “long-shot bidder”) will pursue a deal with TikTok, it could present “significant challenges.” Microsoft is still the front-runner in bidding for the app’s U.S. operations. Reports have also come out that TikTok is allegedly suing President Trump over the ban “as soon as Tuesday.” (WSJ, TechCrunch, NPR)
