The creator of Doc McStuffins is setting out to build a kids’ TV empire at Netflix. With five seasons, two spinoffs projects, and several collaborations with Michelle Obama in the bag, Doc McStuffins has changed Disney. Now, creator Chris Lee has joined forces with Netflix, and with a production company and five shows already greenlit, the new partnership is paving the way for her to be the “Shonda Rhimes or Ryan Murphy of kids TV.” Since animation is one of the few areas of entertainment that has remained unaffected by the pandemic, she’s hoping to “open the doors” to new voices of women and people of color. In wake of the Black Lives Matter protests, white actors have stepped down from voicing Biracial animated characters for more “accurate portrayals.” (IndieWire)
