Brands are “cashing in” on outdoor activities and products for a summer impacted by COVID-19. As young consumers, and Millennial parents, look for new ways to keep themselves entertained this summer, they’re turning to private boats, pools, and other outdoor-related rental services and products. During February and March, Swimply (an “aquatic Airbnb”) saw a 1,200% increase in bookings. They even launched Joyspace, a separate app to accommodate rentals of sports venues like basketball and tennis courts. In May, boat rental service Boatsetter saw a 40% year-over-year increase in bookings. Sales for above ground pools, trampolines, and patio furniture are increasing as well, while gardening supplies and egg-laying chickens are becoming difficult to find. And with in-person summer camp still up in the air, many parents have turned to virtual sessions like Camp KiwiCo, which targets preschool to middle school aged children. (Vox)
