Young students need to be educated about George Floyd, racism, and the protests—but the pandemic is making it difficult to do. According to experts, more teachers and parents should talk with children about racial injustice in America. However, because of the combination of COVID-19 school closures and the end of the academic term, it’s not easy for educators to have those conversations right now. Prior to this, there was already discomfort from some schools and teachers to openly discuss race and racism in the classrooms—but the need is clear, especially as YPulse has found that racism and discrimination is the biggest problem Gen Z believes they face now, even during the COVID crisis.
