Even after lockdowns lift, streaming and connected TV viewing are staying high. According to Nielson, connected TV usage, which includes smart TVs, internet-connected devices, and game consoles, remains high and hasn’t returned to “pre-pandemic levels.” In May, connected TV viewing reached 3.5 billion hours and total hours spent on related devices was up 81% year-over-year. The pandemic also amplified the co-viewing trend, which occupied 50% of total viewing time last month. And as streaming remains popular, Adweek analyzed Netflix’s top 10 lists to find that TV shows are more popular than films, animated content like Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Willoughbys do well, and teen shows like Never Have I Ever tend to be popular too.
