Nickelodeon aired a “powerful” statement supporting the Black Lives Matter movement. As more brands continue to step up and support #BlackLivesMatter, the channel aired an 8 minute and 46 second commercial honoring George Floyd with the words “I Can’t Breathe” on the screen accompanied by the sound of breathing. Most of Viacom’s channels, including BET, MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, and CBS Sports aired the same campaign, but Nickelodeon took a more “kid-friendly approach” to the commercial using its signature orange background. While some parents slammed the tribute for “scaring children,” many young users on social media have praised it as an “important message for kids to hear.” (BuzzFeed News, MarketWatch)
