Prospective college students are choosing to take gap years due to COVID-19 uncertainty.

May 06 2020

Prospective college students are choosing to take gap years due to COVID-19 uncertainty. Because their year-end school events have already been disrupted, Gen Z is looking at alternatives for their future. With many campuses’ futures still in limbo as they weigh the options of whether to open for upcoming semesters, many incoming college students are considering gap years to do volunteer service programs like AmeriCorps, which some officials have said could be critical to the nation’s response to the pandemic. According to a survey from the Art&Science Group, 16% of high school seniors said they will take a gap year, compared to fewer than 3% according to a previous survey by the Higher Education Research Institute.
