As kids learn from home, children’s publishers are seeing a spike in business. With schools shut down across the country, sales of reading and writing workbooks, flash cards, and activity books have skyrocketed as parents scramble to find ways to keep their children entertained and educated. According to NPD BookScan, sales of education, reference, and language books in the juvenile nonfiction category have risen by nearly 40%. Educational workbook company Workman Publishing, reports “demand is at a level that we’ve never seen before,” and has ordered reprints of about 3 million copies to fill large orders from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Costco, Target, Walmart, and indie bookstores.
