Young diverse viewers are beginning to see themselves reflected more on screen. The Diversity Tipping Point generations have longed for more representation in media, and they might finally be getting it: According to a Netflix survey, 63% of 14-to-24-year-olds feel TV series and movies are more accurately reflecting their daily lives. Many believe diverse characters have been on the rise in the last few years—and 53% said their favorite shows and movies have changed their outlook on self-acceptance and boosted their self-esteem. With young consumers more likely to watch streaming services than cable, it’s possible that the diversification of media sources has helped to diversify the characters they see. (Deadline)
