Teens are more likely than ever before to identify as LGBTQ. According to a Boston University study, high schoolers who identify as LGBTQ or unsure increased from 7.3% in 2009 to 14.3% in 2017. However, the data also revealed that attempted suicides for non-heterosexual teens was nearly four times higher than their heterosexual peers. One expert advises: “It’s critical that health and educational institutions have policies and programs in place to protect and improve LGBQ health, such as medical school curricula and high school health curricula that are inclusive of sexual minority health.” (The Hill)
