Fortnite is officially a high school and college sport. PlayVS (the startup building the infrastructure around high school esports) has teamed up with Epic Games to make esports competitive leagues that can be played at a high school and collegiate level. While other companies have set up paid video game competitive leagues, PlayVS is the first one to score a deal with Epic Games. This is PlayVS’s first move into the college space, after starting with high schools and previously partnering with NFHS. Since launching, more than 13,000 high schools have joined the waitlist to get a varsity esports team, representing 68% of the U.S. (TechCrunch)
