Quibi, the “bite-sized,” mobile-only streaming platform, wants to target young viewers with high quality content. In a partnership with T-Mobile, the new app will deliver premium shows in 10 minutes or less at a cost of $5 per month with ads, or $8 per month ad-free—and depending on who you ask, it’s either a terrible idea or “the future of entertainment.” With the abundance of new and established streaming services and the endless supply of free short-form videos, Quibi—short for “quick bites”—has a lot of competition. While not everyone is convinced the app will find an audience, big names like Steven Spielberg and Chrissy Teigen are already on board to release content, and remakes of shows like Legends of the Hidden Temple, and Punk’d are in the works.
