Teens love TikTok, so Silicon Valley is trying to fight back. The app, run by Chinese company ByteDance, is quickly becoming a top social media platform among young consumers. American tech companies are taking steps to combat the new competition: Facebook acquired new app Lasso, and could be building TikTok-like features into Instagram, while Google was in talks to acquire their own video app. They’ve also been criticizing potential censorship on the app, and the government is even reviewing ByteDance’s acquisition of U.S.-based Musical.ly.
