A lawsuit is accusing Fortnite of being too addictive. A legal notice filed in Canada compares the game to cocaine, and accuses creator Epic Games of consulting with “psychologists to help make the game addictive.” It also contends that players have had to seek treatment for their addiction to the app, and that because of playing “[s]everal don’t eat or shower, and no longer socialize.” But while fears of esports and gaming are stoked, others feel strongly that these games create communities and kinship among young consumers, and that the benefits of gaming are being ignored.
