YouTubers are unionizing—or at least attempting to. FairTube is an “internet movement” that has no intention of hashing out a contract with YouTube, and—although they’ve partnered up the EU’s largest trade union—they’re not actually under IG Metall’s umbrella. So where does that leave YouTubers? With “a public pressure campaign” that YouTube most likely won’t recognize. However, it could put pressure on the platform to be more transparent about their monetization practices and shine a spotlight on how hard YouTubers really work. (Vox)
