New data points to a dramatic rise in teen girls poisoning themselves. The Journal of Pediatrics reports that, from 2010 to 2017, poisoning attempts spiked 268% among 10-12-year-old girls and 143% among 13-15-year-olds; 16-24-year-olds also saw significant upticks. Teen suicide has been on the rise as the demo’s second-leading cause of death, pointing to a mental health crisis that’s blamed on everything from rising stress among young people to social media.
