Kids’ apps are collecting unlawful data. A new lawsuit is raising a red flag about The Privacy Issue for kids, whose data is often being picked up by third party services and used to serve up targeted ads. The lawsuit is breaking new ground by implicating Google and Twitter, not just the companies that created the apps, for vetting the apps in-question and adding them to the kids’ sections of their app stores. A former FTC exec adds that “the ‘safe spaces’ for kids in the apps stores aren’t safe at all.” (NYT)
