As Esports Levels Up, it’s becoming a lot more like traditional sports. Competitive gaming leagues are getting schedules, giving their players salaries and benefits, being bought by “big-money owners,” and attracting major sponsorships. Location-based leagues with similar revenue streams to traditional sports are gaining steam because “That consistency and stability are really important for what we’re endeavoring to do,” explains one league commissioner, “which is to build a forever sport.” (The Verge)
