Cord cutting is happening even faster than predicted, climbing 33% in 2018. Roughly 33 million adults will reportedly cancel their pay-TV service this year, far outpacing eMarketer’s last estimate of 27.1 million. Most of the new cord-cutters will opt for OTT services, with YouTube, Netflix, and Amazon leading the way, aligning with Millennials’ & Gen Z’s post-TV behaviors and preferences. It looks like cable companies’ strategy of teaming up with streaming services for bundles and discounts won’t be enough to slow down the shift to streaming. (THR, Recode)
