Ikea is coming out with an augmented reality app to help kids creatively upcycle their cardboard boxes. Kids can point a phone’s camera at the box and the app will populate ideas about what can be made out of that particular size and shape of material. Once the project is picked, users will be shown step-by-step instructions for making, for instance, a 3D shark. The Ikea Toy Box Project was based on an analysis of conversations with parents that showed about half struggle to find creative ways to play with their kids. (Adweek, Campaign US)
