Google is taking over kids’ classrooms with “free” apps. However, the real price for the apps is students’ personal data (raising a privacy red flag) and early-instilled positive associations with the brand. They may not explicitly use ads but the programs—like their “Be Internet Awesome” curriculum—are often heavily branded, which “implicitly signals to students that Google is synonymous with privacy and safety.” (The Outline)
