Movie theaters are going luxe to lure consumers back to the box office. AMC added reclining seats to 247 of its 640 cinemas last year, after finding that ticket sales increased at locations with pricier seats. Studio Movie Grill is even taking up closed Toys 'R' Us stores and other dead retail space and retrofitting them as upscale theaters, while iPic is having success charging upwards of $30 for over-the-top movie experiences. Adding alcohol and pricy food options are also turning the movies into a more of an experience—which appeals to young consumers. (WSJ)
