Hollywood is backing virtual reality with major deals. Spheres debuted at Sundance, where the three-part sci-fi series was picked up for distribution across multiple platforms, starting with the Oculus Rift. Shortly thereafter, the documentary Zikr: A Sufi Revival was acquired at Sundance, becoming the first in its category to do so. Those in the know think this could signify “a big shift” because “a deal of this caliber means mainstream audiences can see the value the entertainment industry—an industry they trust to let them know where media is going next—is placing on VR.” (AListDaily)
