Experts are rallying together to ask Facebook to shut down Messenger Kids. A total of 97 individuals and organizations sent Mark Zuckerberg a letter this week, saying that Facebook’s safeguards aren’t enough to make up for social media’s detrimental effects on childhood development. While Facebook stepped lightly into the space by giving parents plenty of control over the app and making it ad-free, the letter argues that “the app’s overall impact on families and society is likely to be negative, normalizing social media use among young children and creating peer pressure for kids to sign up for their first account.” (Wired)
