JCPenney’s NYC holiday pop-up can be shopped from anywhere via VR. They’re calling it Jacques Penné to poke fun at themselves (think Tar-jay) and going for an Etsy-esque décor to shake up consumers’ perceptions of department stores. People who can’t make it to NYC to experience the trendy marketing move can virtually shop the store on their phone or desktop, “bolstering e-commerce and mobile sales.” The brand is hoping to stave off “slumping sales,” and eschew the “general perception in that market that ‘maybe JCPenney isn’t for me,’”—aka change young consumers’ minds.
