YouTube is fighting back against inappropriate kids’ videos. Content with kids’ characters engaged in inappropriate activities was made “ineligible for monetization” earlier this year, and now the platform will be implementing a new process to flag and age-restrict videos. Content uploaded to YouTube won’t directly upload to YouTube Kids, but will instead populate in the main platform to be given time to be flagged for review first. YouTube says this “extra layer of protection” has been in the works for a while (not just as a reaction to recent headlines), but it’s good timing nonetheless. (TechCrunch, Mashable)
