Some parents are pledging to keep smartphones from their kids until eighth grade, and the movement is gaining momentum. Wait Until 8th started in Texas earlier this year, and “more than 3,700 families in more than 50 states” have reportedly taken the pledge since. Basic phones for calling and texting are encouraged but smartphones are cited as “distracting,” “addictive,” and a way children could get cyberbullied. Parents who aren’t on board, instead see phones as “a communication tool and as a socialization tool” that can be used in positive ways. (WFLA)
