BuzzFeed is saying yes to banner ads for the first time, in order to rev up revenue. The popular publisher has long resisted showing the ad A.D.D. generation the traditional digital format, but for “both tactical and strategic” reasons (ahem, to “monetize [their] huge audience”), they’re changing their tune. Some suspect the strategy change might be to boost BuzzFeed leading up to its reported plan to go public next year. The site risks alienating readers with the ad format, but of course, much of their huge audience also loves ad blockers. (Business Insider)
