Amazon is launching a social network for shopping—sort of. Spark is a feature in the Amazon app that creates a curated feed of product photos that Prime users can post, comment on, and click to buy. The “personalized product discovery experience” is based on user-inputted interests and displays “pictures that one might expect to find on Instagram.” Many e-commerce apps are vying for young consumers’ attention, but Amazon has the advantage of its already large base: Ypulse data shows 45% of 13-34-year-olds pay for an Amazon Prime membership.
