Video games are now a varsity sport. Colleges across the U.S. now have fully outfitted facilities for esports, and have built school teams “just as they would for baseball or basketball.” The National Association of Collegiate Esports, a non-profit focused on building college esports, formed in November of 2016 when there were only 7 varsity programs, and in five short months the number has jumped to 34. Even at schools without official programs, campus esports tournaments are being organized, sometimes offering scholarships as prizes. (TheOutline)
