How do you get teens to understand online privacy? Translate it into Instagram. A task force found that 12-15-year-olds spend more than 20 hours a week online, and more than half of that age group in the U.K. have Instagram accounts. But very few have actually read the platform’s terms of use—“mostly written in legalese”—and have no real understanding of where their personal information is going. One privacy lawyer translated the terms and conditions into “plain English,” turning seven pages into one, to show that “makes it clear that the current offering made by websites and apps to their users is not acceptable.” (The Age)
