Hyper-personalized products could be part of the future of retail, and Adidas is taking its first step in that direction with 3D-printed sneakers customized to an individual’s footprint. The 3D Runner, created to set athletes up for their “best running experience,” will be crafted in New York, Tokyo, and London stores for a limited time and retail for $333. Consumers will briefly run on treadmills to create the 3D-printed midsoles, which will then be inserted in “comfortable, flexible, and durable” sneakers, personalized to their needs and preferences.
