CNN has brought on YouTube star Casey Neistat to deliver a new kind of news, and a younger audience. Neistat, who has 5.8 million followers, says that his viewers see “news and media as largely broken.” CNN has purchased his social-sharing app Beme for a reported $25 million, and Neistat will now build a startup inside the network—over which he has “full creative control.” CNN states the new company will empower “content creators to use technology to find their voice,” and focus on topics relevant to “daily conversations,” likely via mobile video.
