Virtual reality is becoming a powerful tool for philanthropy. Last year, the UN released the VR film Clouds Over Sidra, “a mini-documentary following a 12-year-old Syrian refugee,” in an effort to promote empathy. After showing the video, a 2015 fundraising conference raised 70% more than expected and a UNICEF fundraising program had twice the normal rate of pledges. To better understand what drives donators, the UN has now launched UNVR, a VR app with more experiences and a call to action button to contribute to causes. (The Verge)
