For teens, healthy eating can be a form of rebellion. New research has revealed that telling 13-15-year-olds about the “manipulative nature of the food industry” is the most effective way to promote healthy eating. When presented with a choice of foods, 43% of those who were told negatives about the food industry chose unhealthy snacks, compared to 54% of those who received health-related information or no information at all. According to the study’s co-author, “the normal way of seeing healthy eating is that it is lame…[but] if we make healthy eating seem like the rebellious thing that you do, you make your own choices, you fight back against injustice.” (The Guardian)
