Even wealthy Millennials are flocking to dollar stores. Dollar store chains are overcoming their stigma and reporting profits “above analysts' expectations,” while other value stores struggle to keep up. Dollar General, Dollar Tree, and Family Dollar stores claim that 29% of their Millennial shoppers earn over $100,000 a year, and according to Nielsen, Millennial heads of households who earn more than $100K annually and shop at dollar stores increased 7% between 2012 and 2015. The “shaky economy” has motivated Millennials to search for better deals, and in response dollar chains have expanded their offerings to include groceries, beauty products, and over-the-counter drugs.
