Being part of the cool crowd means not having more than 25 Instagram photos. According to several articles, teens are actively curating their Instagram profiles, which they consider “an extension of their identities,” by deleting photos that have not acquired enough likes. Hundreds of uploaded posts have been cut down to only a fraction of about 15-25 photos on “cool” profiles. One 13-year-old male explains: “Usually if someone has over 500 followers…they expect it to bring in at least 60 likes, anything less usually means the picture will be deleted.”Craving acceptance, some are posting less real-life moments and focusing more on creating posts that their followers can relate to and ultimately like.
