Numbers may show that Millennials donate and volunteer less than any other age group, but that doesn’t mean the aren’t giving—they just aren’t doing it the traditional way. Millennials are driving the crowdfunding industry, which generated an estimated $3 billion in 2014. They are three times more likely than Boomers and 70% more likely then Xers to donate to a campaign, and make up about 33% of totally donations on crowdfunding sites. Crowdfunding’s mobile and social media capabilities appeal to Millennial habits, and the transparency and accountability appeals to their values. Young adults are more likely to give when they know who is “at the receiving end of the donation chain.” (Entrepreneur)
