Millennials have been called the most racially tolerant generation, but they might not be as progressive as they believe. A “closer examination” of data in previous race research reveals that white Millennials and nonwhite Millennials have significantly different views of racial inequality. When asked how well whites and nonwhites get along, 31% of nonwhite Millennials say “not well at all,” compared to 13% of white Millennials. Their views on racial privilege also differ significantly: 65% of nonwhite 14-24-year-olds agree that “white people have more opportunities today than racial minority groups,” compared to 39% of white Millennials.
