As we recently detailed, YouTube is facing increasing competition as Facebook and Twitter amp up their native video efforts, Vimeo works on original content, and new and existing video platforms rethink the way that online video works. Video startups are aiming for success by “targeting YouTube’s shortcomings,” and tackling issues like revenue split, creator-user interaction, and discovering new content. Startup apps to keep an eye on include Victorious, which lets creators “have a hub for their content,” and and 5by, a platform that recommends new videos and lets users share and talk about clips. Vessel, which we previewed last month, and Pluto TV are both working to become go-to online resources for quality video and homes to top content creators. (Adweek)
