For better or for worse, Millennials are getting comfortable with instant gratification. Their desire for convenience and “one click mentality” is reshaping the retail world, and making practices like “click and collect”—shopping online and picking up same day in store or at a collection point—more popular. Brands like Asos, Boden, Amazon, and New Look are experimenting with quicker and more convenient delivery options to satisfy these less patient consumers, and other services are being developed to make package pick up and returns more convenient. Futuristic sounding “anticipatory shopping” could also be on the horizon, and the idea that analytics could send consumers items they need before they’ve even ordered them is something Amazon is already planning for.
