An unpaid internship may be more valuable to young job seekers than a high GPA, honors courses, choice of major, or gap year excursion. Research from various higher education institutions tracked four different résumé versions sent to a variety of entry-level positions to see how each variable fared in the selection process. Five out of six never even heard back, while those with previous work experience in the industry were 14% more likely to get the interview. (WSJ)
