Christine Lagarde, head of the International Monetary Fund, and Condoleezza Rice both pulled out of delivering commencement speeches this graduation season after students at Smith College named the IMF as an “imperialistic, ineffective, and oppressive” system, and those at Rutgers University targeted Rice for her support of the Iraq war.
