Gen Z favors podcasts over social media for their mental health. New data from SXM Media and Edison Research shows that the overall number of monthly Gen Z podcast listeners has grown 57% in the past five years. This gen tunes into all kinds of podcasts for various reasons, including to keep up with news or social issues. But podcasts are also benefiting this gen by protecting their mental health, more than social media platforms; according to a recent McKinsey report, “Nearly a third of Gen Z listeners believe that social media has hurt their emotional well-being.” So, listening to a podcast can serve as a mental wellness tool for some young listeners. YPulse’s TV & Entertainment report data shows that 69% of Gen Z listen to podcasts, and 23% listen weekly or more. (Insider Intelligence)
