Instagram creators are frustrated with the app as they fail to fix the persistent “shadowbanning” issue. Rising concerns among Instagram users have prompted them to speak out against “shadowbanning,” which is “a specific kind of social media censorship that doesn’t remove a post, but conceals it from public view, largely for reasons that are unclear.” In response, the app’s CEO attempted to explain the phenomenon in a blog statement, but seemingly tip-toed around the actual issue. They stressed to Instagram creators that “increased transparency” is being worked on and directed them to a place where they can appeal “shadowbanned” posts, but it remains unclear whether content will actually stop being hidden. Despite the different tweaks they’re often seeking for the platform, YPulse’s The TikTok Effect trend report data shows that 80% of young Instagram users say they like or love the platform.
