A mother is being criticized on Reddit for not maintaining her friendships after having kids. A Reddit user, who is also a single-mother with three kids aged five-and-under, shared how she has a hard time getting close to her childless sister-in-law due to only being invited to “outdoorsy” activities she can’t bring her kids to, so she often has to turn down these invites. Eventually, she commented to her sister-in-law that she could invite her to things that involve the kids, after sharing that she “doesn’t seem that interested in kids and never helps or offers to keep an eye on them at family gatherings.” This Reddit user instantly received backlash from other users on the page: One user bluntly wrote, “You are a mom, they aren’t, and while it sucks, no one wants to hang around kids when they don’t have them.” YPulse’s Hobbies and Passions report shows Millennial parents are most likely to say they see their friends 2-3 times per month to once a week, while non-parents are most likely to say 2-3 times per week or more—and Millennial moms are even less likely than Millennial dads to see their friends with such frequency.
