Sony is introducing Mocopi, a new motion tracking system that boosts metaverse experiences. Mocopi is completely wire-free and doesn’t require any base station, which allows users to control their metaverse avatars from any location. The Mocopi kit includes six wearables with button-like tracking tags that are meant to placed on your head, hip, ankles, and wrists. The tags use Bluetooth tech “to pair with an Android or iOS smartphone app to input motion data to compatible services like Unity.” While further details about the connection capabilities are yet to be released, Sony is planning on stepping even further into the metaverse: they’re also releasing a software development kit later this month that “links motion capture data with metaverse services and 3D development software.” YPulse research shows that 57% of Gen Z has created an avatar in a video game and they’re only growing more interested in the metaverse (though they just think of it as virtual worlds).
